@srl789 is an affiliate creator who posts product Reels and earns commission on Shopee Indonesia. Instead of one catch-all campaign, he runs one comment-to-DM campaign per product: a keyword for that product, and a DM carrying its affiliate link.
Between July and September 2026 he ran three product campaigns and collected 94 entries. The interesting part is not the total. It is how unevenly those entries split between campaigns, and what that says about keywords.
This is his real campaign data, shared with permission. It is one small account, so read it as a worked example, not a benchmark.
The three campaigns
| Product | Keyword | Reward link | Entries |
|---|---|---|---|
| Casio watch | CASIO | Shopee product link | 86 |
| Face mask | MASKER | Shopee product link | 6 |
| Exchange sign-up | MAU | Sign-up link | 2 |
"Masker" is Indonesian for face mask, and "mau" means "want". The CASIO campaign sent 340 DMs on its own, all without him replying to a single comment by hand.
Why one campaign per product
An affiliate account lives on many products, each with its own link. Putting all of them behind one keyword creates two problems: the DM cannot know which product someone wanted, and one broken link affects everything.
Separate campaigns fix both:
- Every product has its own keyword and link, so the DM always sends the right one.
- Every product has its own numbers, so you can see which items people actually want.
- Links can change independently. Shopee affiliate links and promotions change often, and updating one campaign leaves the others alone.
This is also why per-campaign pricing suits affiliates: each product launch is a campaign, rather than a monthly subscription that runs whether or not you post. Our guide to DM automation for affiliate marketers covers the wider workflow.
Lesson 1: the product name is the best keyword
The strongest pattern in his data is the keyword itself.
CASIO is the brand name printed on the product in the Reel. Viewers already know the word, and typing it signals exactly what they want. It drew 86 entries.
MAU, meaning "want", is a generic word. It could apply to anything, and it does not tell the viewer what they will receive. It drew 2.
The campaigns were on different posts, so the keyword is not the only difference, and a single comparison is not proof. But it matches what we see across campaigns: people respond to a keyword that names the thing they want. Our guide to keyword calls to action explains why.
Rule of thumb: use the brand or product name. If the product has no memorable name, use the one-word category a shopper would search for, such as MASKER.
Lesson 2: product Reels peak in week one
| Week (CASIO) | Entries |
|---|---|
| First week | 73 |
| Second week | 9 |
| Rest of the campaign | 4 |
85% of the CASIO entries arrived in the first week. After that the Reel still picked up an occasional entry for over a month, which matters for affiliate links: a late shopper who comments in week five still gets the product link, and still earns the commission.
So leave product campaigns running after the first week, but plan your posting around the fact that each product gets most of its attention up front. Our Black Friday timing guide has the same curve across more campaigns.
Lesson 3: small numbers are still a signal
94 entries is a small sample, and that is the point. For a growing affiliate account, a campaign per product is a cheap experiment. Within a week, the numbers show which product and which keyword got a response, and that tells you what to post more of.
Compare that with posting a link in your bio: you get no idea which Reel sent the click, or which product people wanted. A link in bio also asks the viewer to leave the Reel, open your profile, and find the right item in a list. A comment keyword asks for one word, and the link arrives in their inbox, where they can come back to it later when they are ready to buy.
Where this fits for Indonesian creators
Shopee affiliate links are a popular way for Indonesian creators to earn from Instagram, and the same approach works for any marketplace that gives you a product link, whether that is Tokopedia, Lazada, or TikTok Shop. Our guide to ManyChat alternatives for Indonesian creators covers pricing in rupiah and the other options available.
