ManyChat rewrote its pricing in March 2026, and most explanations of it are either out of date or written by ManyChat. If you're trying to work out what you'd actually pay, this is the full picture: every plan, the billing unit that drives your costs, and the fees that only show up after you grow.
The 2026 ManyChat plans at a glance
ManyChat moved from two plans (Free and Pro) to five. Prices below are monthly billing in USD.
| Plan | Price | Active contacts | Channels |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 25 | 2 (Instagram, Messenger) |
| Essential | $14/month | 250 | 2 |
| Pro | $29/month | 2,500 | 3 (adds WhatsApp or SMS) |
| Business | $69/month | 7,500 | 3 |
| Advanced | $139/month | 25,000 | 3 |
Essential covers basic automation flows but leaves out A/B testing, advanced analytics, and most integrations. Pro adds those plus Shopify. Business and Advanced are the same product with bigger contact buckets.
The headline numbers look reasonable. The catch is the column in the middle: every plan is defined by active contacts, and that number only moves in one direction.
What an "active contact" actually is
An active contact is anyone who has ever interacted with your automation. Comment a keyword, tap a button in a DM, reply to a message: that person is now a contact, and they count toward your plan limit every month from then on.
They do not expire when they go quiet. Someone who commented on a giveaway post eight months ago and never spoke to you again still occupies a slot, unless you go in and manually delete them. Your bill is based on the audience you have accumulated, not the audience you are currently talking to.
This is the detail that makes ManyChat pricing hard to predict. You don't pay for usage. You pay for history.

The costs that show up later
Three charges tend to surprise people after a few months.
Overage fees. Pass your contact limit and you pay per extra contact: roughly $0.10 per contact on Essential monthly billing (about $0.08 annual), $0.05 on Pro monthly (about $0.04 annual), and around $0.02 on Business annual. A Reel that brings in 3,000 new commenters while you're on Pro adds real money to that month's bill.
The AI add-on. ManyChat's AI features are not included in any plan. They cost an extra $29/month on top of whatever tier you're on. Pro with AI is $58/month, not $29.
The tier jump. Overages are priced so that sustained growth pushes you to the next plan. Going from 2,400 to 8,000 contacts isn't a small overage, it's a move from $29 to $69. From there, 25,000 contacts means $139. Growth raises your software bill even in months where you run nothing.
What it costs at your audience size
Here's the practical math for an Instagram creator using comment-to-DM automation:
| Your accumulated contacts | Cheapest realistic plan | Monthly cost |
|---|---|---|
| Under 250 | Essential | $14 |
| 2,500 | Pro | $29 |
| 7,500 | Business | $69 |
| 10,000 | Business + overage, or Advanced | ~$115 to $139 |
| 25,000 | Advanced | $139 |
Add $29 to any row if you want the AI features. And remember these are accumulated totals: three decent campaigns can take a small account past 2,500 contacts, and the bill stays at that level afterward whether or not you keep running campaigns.
The free plan is now a trial
Until March 2026, the free plan included 1,000 contacts, which was enough for a small creator to run real campaigns. It now includes 25. That is a 97.5% cut.
Twenty-five contacts is one mildly successful post. A single Reel with a keyword CTA can generate that many comments in an hour. The free plan still works for testing whether the product fits you, but it no longer supports actually using it. We covered what creators are doing about it in our breakdown of the free plan change.
Contact billing vs paying per campaign
The deeper issue isn't any single number above. It's the model. Contact-based billing means your cost tracks your audience size, while your revenue tracks your campaigns. Those are different curves, and the gap between them is what we've called the success tax: the better your content performs, the more you pay, even if engagement next month is zero.
The alternative models are flat-rate pricing (same price regardless of contacts) and per-campaign pricing (pay when you run something, nothing when you don't). We break those models down side by side in our guide to DM automation pricing. For creators who run campaigns in bursts, a giveaway this month, a launch next quarter, per-campaign pricing matches cost to activity instead of to history. That's the model UnlockDM is built on, launching at a fraction of ManyChat's cost for Instagram comment-to-DM campaigns.
ManyChat still makes sense if you genuinely need multi-channel automation, WhatsApp and SMS flows, and always-on chatbot behavior across a large permanent audience. If what you run is Instagram campaigns, you're paying for a lot of machinery you don't use, and it's worth seeing how it stacks up against the other options in our comparison of Instagram DM automation tools.
FAQ
How much does ManyChat cost in 2026? ManyChat's 2026 plans are Free (25 active contacts), Essential at $14/month (250 contacts), Pro at $29/month (2,500 contacts), Business at $69/month (7,500 contacts), and Advanced at $139/month (25,000 contacts). Overage fees of roughly $0.02 to $0.10 per extra contact apply when you pass your limit.
What counts as an active contact in ManyChat? Anyone who interacts with your automation, by commenting a keyword, sending a DM, or tapping a button, becomes an active contact. They keep counting toward your monthly limit even if they never message you again, unless you manually delete them.
What happened to ManyChat's free plan? In March 2026 ManyChat cut the free plan from 1,000 active contacts to 25, a 97.5% reduction. One moderately successful comment-to-DM post can use up all 25 contacts in a few hours, so the free plan now works only as a trial.
How much does ManyChat cost with 10,000 contacts? At 10,000 active contacts you need the Advanced plan at $139/month, or the Business plan at $69/month plus overage fees for 2,500 extra contacts, which lands between roughly $115 and $195/month depending on billing cycle. The AI add-on is another $29/month if you use it.
Is there an alternative to ManyChat's contact-based pricing? Yes. Some tools charge flat monthly rates regardless of audience size, and per-campaign tools like UnlockDM charge once per campaign instead of billing monthly for every contact you have ever collected.
UnlockDM runs Instagram comment-to-DM campaigns on per-campaign pricing: you pay when you launch a campaign, not a growing monthly fee for every contact your past posts ever collected.
